BehindtheNews

(BTN)

Term 1

Week 4 - 19th February 2008

The government of Australia officially said sorry to the stolen generation.

Week 5 - 26th February 2008

The interest rates are getting higher because people are spending too much money.

Local councils and businesses are using terrible noises to scare away kids and make them stop hanging around the streets late at night. We think this is bad and wrong. If you want to vote against it, go online at abc.net.au/btn and make your vote count.

Week 6 - 4th March 2008

Prince Harry went to Afghanistan to help fight in the war. The news was kept from the people to keep him safe.  We think that this was the right thing to do because it would keep all the people involved safe.

Week 7 - 11th March 2008

Should the Kokoda Track be mined?

Yes - The money would help the people in PNG get better health and education services.

No - Because it might destroy the environment and the Track is a Sacred War Grave for many soldiers who died in the 2nd World War.

 Week 8 - 18th March 2008

Some Aboriginal girls were asked to leave a hostel in the Northern Territory because they were Aboriginal. This is called discrimination and it is illegal in Australia.

Week 9 - 25th March 2008

When the Dalai Lama was only 15 years old China invaded Tibet and took it over. As the world is watching China this year because of the Olympic Games, many Tibetans are protesting against China. Protests are happening in China and all around the world.

Week 10 - 1st April 2008

There are too many kangaroos on a government site in Canberra. The government wants to cull the kangaroos but some people are protesting. We think it is very bad to cull them because they are part of our native animals and they are on our Coat of Arms.
